Editorial policy
A short list of things we will not do, written down so you can hold us to it.
Independence
No maker, seller or brand has ever paid to appear on this site, and none can. There is no sponsored content here, no advertorial, and no advertising inventory. The only money this site makes is affiliate commission on purchases readers choose to make, which is set out in full on affiliate disclosure.
Nobody outside this site sees a page before it publishes. We do not send drafts to sellers, we do not accept edits from them, and we do not remove a caveat because a seller objects to it. If a seller can show that a caveat is factually wrong, we correct the fact — which is a different thing.
Things we will never publish
- A testimonial or customer review we did not receive. There are no reviews on this site. If you ever see one here, it came from a named, real person and it is attributed to them exactly as they wrote it.
- A star rating or aggregate rating of our own. We have not handled these products and there is no rating to aggregate. No numeric score appears anywhere, and none is emitted in this site's structured data either.
- A claim to have tested something. We do not test products. No page here will ever say in our testing, we put this through, or any variant.
- A credential the author does not hold. No certifications, no medical review, no expert panel. The author is described as an enthusiast because that is what he is.
- A price we did not receive from the API. No remembered numbers, no approximations, no was-$X-now-$Y unless the API returned both.
- An ASIN, specification or dimension written from memory. Everything comes from a live lookup or from the seller's stated listing. Where the listing is silent, the field stays blank.
How products get chosen
The full method is on how we pick. The summary: the product has to resolve to a live listing, its provenance is recorded from where it was actually found rather than what its title claims, its specs come from the seller's own statements, and its price is live and expires after 48 hours.
Ordering within a list is an editorial judgment about which product suits the most readers, made before any commission rate is looked at. We are not going to pretend that judgment is objective. We will say that it is not for sale.
Sourcing and claims
Where a guide on this site makes a factual claim that is not simply visible in a listing — about a material, a standard, a marketplace rule — it either cites a source or states plainly that we could not verify it. Several pages here carry a line saying we could not locate a reliable source for a commonly repeated claim, and that is deliberate. Repeating something because everyone repeats it is how bad information survives.
We do not cite ourselves as evidence, we do not launder a marketing page into a source, and we do not link to a study we have not read.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Factual corrections are made as soon as we can confirm them. Where a correction changes the substance of a recommendation — a product turning out to be mass-produced, a spec being wrong in a way that matters — the page says what changed rather than being quietly edited.
Corrections go to info@wickandwhittle.com or through the contact page. Both reach a person.
Updates
Every page carries a last-updated date, and that date reflects genuine changes to the content rather than an automatic restamp. Prices refresh daily and do not count as a content update — restamping every page every day because a number moved would make the date meaningless.
Who is responsible
