The short version

Wick & Whittle is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

When you click a buy button on this site and then buy something, Amazon pays us a percentage of what you spent. It costs you nothing extra — the price is the same as it would be if you had gone to Amazon directly.

How to tell which links earn

Every link that can earn us money is marked. The buttons carry an #ad label, they open in a new tab, and they carry the `rel="sponsored nofollow"` attribute that tells search engines the link is commercial. In-body links to other pages on this site are ordinary internal links and earn nothing.

Our Amazon Associates tracking tag is `wickandwhittle-20`. It is appended to every Amazon link on this site, which is how Amazon knows a purchase came from here. You can see it in the URL after you land on Amazon.

The incentive you should know about

Amazon does not pay a flat rate. Categories pay differently, and Amazon Handmade pays a higher rate than most general Amazon categories. Since this site is built around handmade goods, that means our commercial interest points towards recommending Handmade listings over general-catalog ones.

We are telling you that rather than hoping you do not notice, because it is the only honest way to present the rest of the site. The counterweight is written into how we pick: where a factory-made item is genuinely the better buy for the reader, we list it and label it as factory-made, and we take the lower commission. That happens on several pages here, and cutting boards is the most obvious one.

What a commission does not change

• No maker can pay to be listed. Nobody has ever paid for a placement on this site and nobody can. There is no advertising inventory here to sell.
• Nothing is ranked by commission rate. Where two products would serve a reader equally well, we do not check which pays more before ordering them.
• Caveats are not softened. Every product with a known limitation carries it on the card, including products we would earn well from.
• Skip calls are published. Every roundup names something not to buy, which by definition earns us nothing.

Prices

Prices shown on this site are pulled from Amazon's API and stamped with the date they were taken. They change, sometimes daily, and Amazon's price at the moment of purchase is the price that applies — not ours. If our data for an item is older than 48 hours, the number disappears and the button reverts to Check price rather than showing you something that may have stopped being true.

We do not display a price we did not receive from the API, and we never write a price by hand.

Other affiliate programs

At present, Amazon is the only affiliate program this site earns from. Where we link to a maker's own storefront or another marketplace, that link is a plain untracked link and earns us nothing — we include it because it is useful to you, not because it pays.

If that changes and we join another program, this page will be updated to name it before any link goes live.

Why we tell you all this

Partly because the FTC requires clear and conspicuous disclosure of material connections, and a paragraph buried in a footer is neither. Mostly because the whole proposition of this site is that we tell you what we know and what we do not — and quietly hiding how it makes money would make every other claim on it worth less.
